Organizational maturity: how to know where your organization stands

“Where does our organization really stand?” Most leaders answer on instinct. Organizational maturity gives you a structured, measurable answer. Here’s how to assess it.

What is organizational maturity?

Organizational maturity is how far a given capability has developed, measured on a scale. A practice can be nonexistent, informal, defined, managed, or optimized. Measuring maturity replaces “things are more or less fine” with a precise level you can compare over time.

Why a single overall score isn’t enough

Saying an organization is “a 3 out of 5” tells you nothing useful: its finances may be solid while its governance is fragile. Maturity only means something domain by domain. That’s why Strategenia breaks the organization down into 13 domains and 63 cells, each scored from 0 to 4.

The levels, in plain terms

  • Nonexistent (0): the capability isn’t there.
  • Informal (1): it happens, but case by case, with no method.
  • Defined (2): a way of doing it exists and is known.
  • Managed (3): the practice is tracked and measured.
  • Optimized (4): it improves continuously, based on data.

Measuring isn’t the end, it’s the beginning

Knowing your level changes nothing on its own. The value comes from what you do with it: spot the gaps, decide which to close first, act, then reassess. Maturity then becomes the dashboard for a continuous improvement loop rather than an exam grade.

How to get your maturity snapshot

A first snapshot takes a single workshop: your team scores the cells, then Strategenia’s engine calculates where to act first. With each cycle, the snapshot sharpens and progress becomes visible.
